People are either charming or tedious." - Lord Darlington, Lady Windmere's Fan by Oscar Wilde.

And it's really not anywhere near an even split.

ulysses: nope, though I won't tip my hand which way I think the scale balances.
and I am frequently both... ;)

This quote is very Oscar Wilde. Okay, that's stating the obvious, but you know what I mean! I don't see it as either/or necesarily. But with our own perception, I suppose we do classify people in such a way.

I think they are all of the above. Problem is ... we havee forgotten each other and in doing so, ourselves.

ingrid: do you really think you are tediously charming?

breal: Oscar Wilde (along with G.B. Shaw) gave us many wonderful lines. The last time I came across something modern worthy of Oscar Wilde was a little over a year ago.

barbara: definitely when they are used as a shortcut to thinking, knowing and learning.

inside out thank you for dropping by. It is true that far too often, we do not take the time to get to know a person, but rather prefer to categorize them. When we start making quick decisions, then I think it is time to step back, relax, take a deep breath, and calm down.

cavalock: yep.

That quote is defintely Wilde! It stops you abrubtly and you can't dismiss it completely, despite how ridiculous it may seem.

Haha. I should have been a bit more clear with that last comment, particularly when discussing marriage and prostitution! Yikes. I think my brain is lazy today. But something tells me that you understand what I meant!

Don't you wish you could invite Oscar Wilde over for drinks?

Here's another one of his quotes that I love:

"Men always want to be a woman's first love - women like to be a man's last romance." -Oscar Wilde, writer (1854-1900)

breal: it does have that Wilde quality about it. Of course, it is all the more absurd given the dull and dry context in which it appears.

tena: I don't know, depends if he will treat my furniture well.

ancilla: no one is perfect. What I think is more important is how hard you try than how well you succeed.
