As I wrote to my friend this morning, I have a new insight into what I wrote and blogged about yesterday. This is part of the content of that e-mail:

As I write this, I see why I wrote what I did yesterday – because, I was not communicating with you, I was simply writing to you. While communication requires the active participation of two people – it is not about sharing, it is about caring.

But, you know what? Caring is hard. It is easier to fall into a pattern of complaining about things, of exchanging lists of information without feeling and emotion.

A few weeks ago you shared with me the meaning of HELLO and I would like to share it back to you:

(H)ow are you?
(E)verything all right?
(L)ike to hear from you
(L)ove to see you soon!
(O)bviously, I miss you

You are welcome. Fortunately, I have good friends who keep me on my toes - too bad most of them are scattered all over the world. sigh.

e-mail is great for keeping in touch, but, unfortunately, it has killed my letter writing.

I didnt really notice that the simple word HELLO could have a very deep meaning...so touched..

You should be grateful to have lots of good frens even if they r scattered all over the world. Unlike me, I could count my good friends with my fingers.

Just that I had a bad experience with 'good friends' before...so I try to limit my new friends now.

I would never describe myself as having a lot of friends.

As a social person, I am pretty much a flop. This is not to say I don't have my moments, but ... compared to other people, I am no social butterfly.

I would say, that the few friends I do have, are good friends. But this is more to do with the way I make friends - slowly. I am very slow to call someone friend. I am not sure my way is necessarily a good way, but it seems to work for me.

I sometimes envy people who seem to easily fit into any social situation, who are popular and always in demand. I can't deny it would be nice to be popular.

Faithful friends are a sturdy shelter:
whoever finds one has found a treasure.
Faithful friends are beyond price;

Of retirement and death

All I long for, all I have longed for for years is to retire (prior to wanting to retire, my ambition was to play). Given a chance not to work, I would take it. However, this is not because of laziness or some inherent trait of sloth. Rather it is because I want to pursue my own interests and ideas; I want to do my own thing. One of the saddest things I find in talking with people about not working (aside from obvious disapproval) is that they like working, they would get bored not working, after all, there is only so much TV one can watch. Hmmm ... a pretty sad comment I think. I have a mind full of ideas. There are lots of things which grab my interest, which distract me as I journey through life. Finding what I want to do is hard., because every week I can have a new thing I want to pursue. Some might argue that I am not disciplined. Borrowing and modifying an idea from Ingrid , I present 14 bits of information about myself. Seven are real. Seven are false. This is also partially inspired by Carra 's post about weird things about herself. When I was into model rocketry, I used to roll my own rocket engines and make my own rocket fuel. I often had "catastrophic" engine failure. I have never been intoxicated. Not even a little bit "happy". I have had the privilege and pleasure of going out with women from every continent except Antarctica (for the obvious reason there are no indigenous Antarcticans). I volunteered one Christmas at a soup kitchen. I naively believed that such simple acts of generosity helped people over temporary setbacks until they could get back on their feet.
