Dance of the Dead

Two weeks ago (a week after arriving in Peru) I called my parents to let them know we had arrived safely and that, in general, things were going well. I also wished to inquire about my mother's health.

My mother is dying. Her last treatment was unsuccessful and there are new growths on her neck and stomach and there are no more treatment options available.

I spoke longer with her on Monday after I returned and she expressed feeling disappointed that the cancer had returned so quickly - although, she said she was able to feel the new growths, but hoped that they were "fossilized souvenirs" from the old growths..

Like before, I ask for your prayers, but not sympathy.

For those who are new to this, you can read more here and here.

Praying for your mom. I hope she and you find the strength for the days to come. But remember she will be at peace when the time does come.

Thanks colleen.

My mom is pretty much at peace now. As mentioned, she is disappointed (as we all are) that the treatment did not work, but everything will be taken one day at a time until the end.

I am a man of faith, so I believe she will go to be with family members who have passed on before her.

Richard there is nothing worse than loosing a parent. I lost my father very suddenly last year. I hope you are able to spend as much time with her as possible and don't regret anything. As all mothers I'm certain she would want you to be happy as you continue on. Love never dies it merely changes forms and she live inside of everyone she's touched. I wish her and you all the best.
I am adding my prayers for peace and love in your mom and family at this difficult time. It sounds like she is a strong person and can accept her path graciously and with dignity. There is no doubt in my mind that you will be an amazing pillar of love and support for her right through all of her journey to join your relatives.

It's very hard to lose someone you love to this awful disease. Both of my parents succumbed to it. You will find that your memories of your mom later will be of healthier times, when she looked radiant and full of life.

Thank you all for you kind and inspiring words.

Technically, we are all dying, but for some it is more rapid than others.

My mom looks better than she has for a long time (aside from the really, really short hair).

We will see what transpires. As I tell people, I had a good life with my mother, so I have not regrets or outstanding issues.

Richard,

Send our prayers and best of regards to your beloved mom.

Let her know, Our love and prayers are always with her, no matter what happens.

I became an orphan when i was ten, but to me, they're ( my parents )still living strongly in my life.

prince: thanks. I think it is sad when children lose their parents at a young age. Fortunately, I had a good life with her.
