Capitalizing on the Season

Winter. Spring. Summer. Fall.

Normal grammar rules state these words are not to be capitalized (unless used at the beginning of a sentence, naturally).

I think that is wrong. I love to capitalize the names of the seasons. So, I often, deliberately, break the rule when writing.

Yesterday was a very warm Spring day. It got up to 25C (77F).

I do the same thing, even though I was taught differently. It just seems like they deserve to be capitalized.

The weather’s going screwy this side of the world too. Speaking of screwy, u saw what they did to the Daleks in the latest episode? Think its just wrong to mix it up like that.
I think so too because they need to be different than the usual meanings for fall and spring. Many times Winter and Summer are used as verbs so I wouldn't capitalize them.

cavalock: I wouldn’t say the weather is going screwy. We occasionally get wild swings. Of course, some will claim it is all our fault and a result of global warming.

Are you talking about the last two episodes in Season 2 of the new Doctor Who? I didn't like it. It started off really good (not the Christmas Invasion special though) with New Earth - a really solid story. Tooth and Claw was an average episode, a sort of requisite Gothic/horror type episode. School Reunion was an ok sentimental revisit with K-9 and Sarah Jane Smith. The Girl in the Fireplace was pretty weak. Etc … The episodes got weaker and weaker as the series progressed with the absolutely awful Love and Monsters taking the cake. Doomsday was weak, but it did have this great quote in it, ""Don't you understand? You're in every street, you're in their homes, you've got their children - of course they're gonna fight!"

Have you seen any of Torchwood. The spin-off with Captain Jack Harkness? I thought it was really bad - so I won't be wasting my time watching it.

MOI: when used as a noun indicating season, I think they should be capitalized, otherwise no. On the other hand, there is something to be said for having quirky spelling (usually nothing good)

No, I was referring to the latest season 3 episode ‘Daleks Take Manhattan’. Read bout it and saw the preview trailer for Part 2. I won’t spoil it for you but some fans aren’t happy bout the new direction the Daleks have taken.

I didn’t know bout the Captain Jack spinoff.

cavalock: I didn't know season 3 was airing - but a quick check shows it is. I will have to see if I can find it on youtube. I was very disappointed with season 2 and hope season 3 gets better. I will have to see if I can watch them. It is a pity, because I would buy the DVD if it was anygood. I have the first season, but I cannot justify buying the second season for just 3 episodes (well, maybe if it was only $39.99 I would).
