Are you trying to kill me?

I first met my friend Emad back in 1992. Megumi invited me over, telling me that she had a friend whose wife was coming over. We went to his student apartment and I brought some Pujabi mix with me.

Emad grabbed a handful, popped it in his mouth and thought he was going to die. Apparently, Sudanese do not eat spicy food and Punjabi mix is pretty high on the spicy snack scale.

He was incredulous that both Megumi and I seemed to enjoy it without ill effect.

Since then, he has learned to tolerate and even indulge in spicy food.

He still remembers that first encounter with me when he thought I tried to kill him.

I remember my first encounter with spicy food. It was in a Tex-Mex restaurant named Speedy Gonzales. Since then I have developed a taste for HOT in many different cuisines.

ancilla: I love spicy food with coconut milk. I find the milk nicely tempers the spiciness. The worst is sour spicy food - the acid makes the spiciness much hotter.

:barbara: hot is nice, as long as it is not exaggerated. One dish I find hard to eat is ceviche (seafood marinated in lime juice) with hot peppers. The acidity greatly amplifies the hotness.

acey: ah, but it is so-o-o-o-o good. It is quite addictive and easy to munch away several thousand calories worth of it.

sweetiepie: it is good. The more you eat it the more you get used to it.

kaymac: so was I, so was I.

That's a funny story and obviously something the two of you will never forget! Is it REALLY spicy? I really do like spicy food but I don't think I'm an extreme spicy person. I might have to try these sometime. Are they difficult to find?

breal: is it really spicy? Hmmm ... not for me. You should be able to find them in any Indian supermarket (although, I found the one I just bought in my local supermarket - where I can also buy horse and bison and dragon fruit).
I am such a plain Jane eater it's ridiculous! I don't have anything with too much spice..no curry, no Mexican...you name it but I should learn to use them since I really do need to cut down sodium due to blood pressure. Mrs. Dash is okay as is basil and parsley. I just bought my first pk of rosemary and used a bit to put in chichen chowder!

MOI: I'm sorry to hear that. You must try Savoury, it goes very well with meats and in soup.

The basic seasonings I use are salt, pepper, garlic, onion, cumin, and curry spice.
